The Coombe began as a soundtrack
collaboration between Karen Sharkey and Samuel De La Rosa (Led Er Est)
for some animated short films Karen was producing while living in
Queens, NY. After their move to Texas in 2012, further experimenting
resulted in longer songs, noise suites, and field recordings that later
would represent the essence of this EP.
The Coombe’s debut EP is an astonishingly graceful and multifaceted creature that effortlessly synthesizes psych rock, minimal folk and electronica.
Born and in part recorded in the desert, The Coombe is comprised of six mesmerizing gems that provide a rarefied glimpse into a touching and liquid soundscape.

Catching the same spirit of such great labels, we asked to the italian synth wave princess Mushy to create a compilation starting from a tabula rasa. The mission was hard. Following her tastes and heart, she had to select a dozen of new bands from all over the world with unreleased and unique for this project tracks, picking up the title and realizing the graphic design and artwork. The full process of "The End Of Civilization" took almost 1 year but the result was touching us deep into our soul.
Mushy began her career crafting noise bursts and aggressive oblique instrumentals before, in her newest form, blooming into a beautiful, epic and heart-heavy icy synth sound, having both "Faded Heart" (2011) and "Breathless" (2012) as album of the week at Rough Trade. "The End Of Civilization" perfectly represents her double sided synth-wave / kraut-psychedelic soul. Every track she selected for us is an absolute highlight, moving from the analog minimal / cold wave sounds of Police Des Moeurs, ASSS, The Circa Tapes, TEEEL and Rosemary to the tempestuous post punk and psychedelia of Deathday, The Murder Act, Phosphor and The Strange Forces, ending with spectral cold folk of Tablets and The Long Wives.

It’s quite unusual for an Italian band to get attention before its first full-length even comes to life. Ancien Régime from Rome might just be the exception to this rule. In fact, the band sole release before 2012 had been the quickly sold out limited edition Split Ep (Mannequin), released together with Brooklyn-based cold wave heroes Led Er Est.
Since then, Ancien Régime have been playing all over Italy along with outstanding bands such as Two Door Cinema Club, Is Tropical, The Soft Moon, Clan of Xymox, A Place to Bury Strangers and many others.
Their first album “The Position” evokes new wave and synth-pop memories, delivering epic vintage sounds and wrapping them all with catchy riffs and melodies. Still, despite this fascination with the past, the band's work stands out as a distinctive, highly personal take on the genre.
The album is opened by the single “Negative”, with its dark gloomy vocals and war-like drumming. “Negative” is, in fact, the quintessential Ancien Régime composition: wave, biting snare, interweaving synths and guitars, reverbs, delays.
“The Position” was recorded and mixed by Alessandro Gavazzi of “Hell Smell” – Rome, and co-produced by Alessandro Adriani from Mannequin Records and Ancien Régime.

On
'Breathless' Italian artist Mushy takes the blueprint laid down on her
debut 'Faded Heart' and blows it up to an analogue hd, a deep,
evocative and immersive listening experience that cocoons the listener
in sensory loss and ecstasy simultaneously. On 'Breathless' there's a
sharper focus on the sound and textures of her craft. Legendary 4AD
artists A R Kane feature on her single "My Life So Far", and indeed
it's that label and much of the satellite work in the mid 80s that most
informs 'Breathless.'While more understated than the likes of Liz Fraser or Zola Jesus, Mushy's vocals are ghostly, expressionistic and suggestive of a netherland just beyond the realms of dream. On tracks like opener 'To Be Lost' there's a mournful, glacial shift of swooping synths and bass emphasising the lyrics' drift. The singular atmosphere pervades the whole record, never letting go, and on tracks like 'Night Dress' it descends into a darker, lurking place rich in imagery. Elsewhere the precise snap of vintage electronics pushes and pull the listener into a hypnotised state that far surpasses Mushy's previous work.

Mushy - 1984 7'' Blood Red (Haute Magie)
Hot on the heels of Mushy's 'My Life So Far', Haute Magie present the lush melancholic gloom of her '1984' 7". Like its predecessor, it's as close as we've heard to the beautifully miserable torpor of early 4AD or Factory Records, perhaps factored with a decadent Italian darkness and iced for lingering chills. A-side 'When You say Time' lets a lone drum machine ricochet across awning synth pads and a floor-skimming bassline that says just as much the undecipherably gorgeous vocals. B-side 'Crystal Chemistry' is lustfully, tantalisingly darker still, a modern coldwave masterpiece painted in low light from a palate of toms, sweeping strings and harmonised glossolalic swoon. So good.

’Breathless’ is such a perfect collage of dream-like states made into songs, that the fine connoisseurs at Rough Trade didn’t wait one second to elect it their favorite album of the week. On 'Breathless', paraphrasing the nice people at Rough Trade, Mushy takes the blueprint laid down on her debut 'Faded Heart' and pushes it way further, towards the heights of analogue HD, and from there even deeper. ‘Breathless’ offers itself as an evocative and immersive listening experience, one that cocoons you in both sensory loss and ecstasy.
Self-Titled Mag had to say this about the album: "While her experimental spirit remains in full relief throughout the record, the singer/producer’s pop instincts have been sharpened and refined." Now wonder then, the blog decided to exclusively premiere ‘Breathless’. The LP is available to stream in its entirety here.

MNQ 025 L.A.S.'s CRIME - DISPHORIA 1985-1989 LP

L.A.S.’s Crime (the initials
stand for “Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime”, a famous
short novel by Oscar Wilde) is an electronic band from Siena (in the
medieval tuscan, center of Italy) founded in 1984 by Sandro Marchetti
(vocals, synthesizer, programming) and Maria Elena Brogi (vocals,
synthesizers).
With a music sometimes soft, sometimes melancholic, but always fully electronic the duo from 85 to 89 L.A.S.'s Crime produced 5 demo tapes (Five Lies '85, Anomaly '87, Inanitas '87, Electa '88, Korobi '89) and a studio album (Abyss 43) registered at Sound City studio of Florence, but remained unreleased for label close.
During the five years of activity (85-89) the band had various additional members for the live concerts, but the original nucleous always have represented the true creative engine with more than 60 songs in a few years...Some of this songs have survived for 25 years exclusively for users' choice, spreading through the web.
Today, thank to the italian label "Mannequin", 13 selected songs can have finally a new life on vinyl, giving to the listener a small piece of 80's remained intact...

"Tanzmusik" is the first LP from Sam Rosenthal, boss of the historic Projekt Records label and mind of one of the most influential dark wave acts coming out of the US, Black Tape For A Blue Girl. Originally released in March 1985 and completely recorded at home on a four-track TEAC-2340 with a super minimal setup (Korg Poly 61, Realistic Moog, Boss Dr-110 and some effects), the vinyl release was limited to 250 copies, with a tanish card glued to a white LP jacket
The album continues in the “electronic mood-music” tradition established by Sam on the PROJEKT ELECTRONIC AMERIKA cassettes, with the added intriques of the drum-computer, exploring the realms of electronic music that the critics have compared to Tangerine Dream, O.M.D. and Brian Eno.
Sam Rosenthal is an American artist. He is the founder and leader of the band Black Tape For a Blue Girl and the record label Projekt Records (30th anniversary in 2013). He lives in Brooklyn with his son and cat. Black Tape for a Blue Girl, begin in 1986 after his move from Florida to California, serves as a vehicle for Rosenthal's musical vision. Its signature combination of gothic, ethereal, ambient and neo-classical elements has explored existential themes of loves lost and passions yet to come. After his early electronic work represented on "Tanzmusik", his music has grown into a full-fledged band, whose members revolve around Rosenthal's subtle electronic foundation. In 1996, Rosenthal released his debut novel, The First Pain To Linger, which sold 10,000 self-released copies. In 2011, Rosenthal began work on his second book, Rye, an erotic novel which will be self-published in the fall of 2012.

HEINRICH DRESSEL - SIGHING MELODIES THRU THE GRAVES (MNQ 027)
Mannequin is more than proud to announce the forthcoming release of Heinrich Dressel aka Valerio Lombardozzi, the italian producer and mind of one of the best techno-electro labels around, MinimalRome.
After some marvellous releases on Legowelt's Strange Life and Minimal Rome, Heinrich Dressel is finally celebrating the use of vintage synthesizers and driven electronic machines, holding elements of electro and ambient at the same time, but breaking from the genres too, deeply inspired by Heinrich Dressel, the pioneering German archeologist sent to study in the holy city in Monte Testaccio, who drew what is now a major tool for study of Roman amphorae, the "Table of Dressel.
Heinrich Dressel is placed in a sort of limbo where John Carpenter meets Drexciya, a sonorous journey through the darker side of the electro, taking the commands of the Elka Synthex, one of the most impressive polysynths in the history of music, planned and manifactured by Mario Maggi in the early 80s, as the commercial brother of the MCS70, synth that gave birth to a masterpice album like "Automat". “Sighing Melodies Thru The Graves” musically speaking can be described as a captivating hybrid of styles, mixing the chilling-menacing mood of the 70s / 80s lo-fi funkadelic horror soundtracks to outerspace synthesised soundscapes in a pure classy vein. This is cryptical-kosmische psychedelica with a nice electro retro touch and avant-minimalist vibes. An important contribution and a propulsive cinematic affair.

Based in Los Angeles, The Present Moment achieves a stunning hybridation and an infectious blend of dense cold-wave’s electro grooves, cyclical droning interferences, vigorous epic industrialism, dolorous nocturne-goth weirdness superbly sustained by a seductive eighties flavor. Ritualistic in nature, the whole musical trip offers a dark, delightful and rather unique breathtaking atmosphere, sometimes revealing enthralling lysergic electro-ambiences. The Present Moment is situated in an in-between and non stabilized musical region which authorizes astonishing connections.
This new record is a collaborative effort between Scott Milton and Philipp Munch of The Rorschach Garden. Scott Milton’s rich sense of composition gives to the arrangements a radical and unique feel, somewhere between the narcoleptic twist of The Sisters of Mercy, the regular addictive density of Front 242 and the touching goth-dramatic sense of Colin Newman or Asylum Party.
This year, Scott Milton’s live band played with a handful of notorious figures of the synth-minimal cold wave circle such as Light Asylum, Salem, Gatekeeper, Iron Curtain, Legendary Pink Dots, Soft Metals just to name a few…

Ickx went more electronic with a primitive sequencer and drum computer.
Without previous studio experience, he started recording “STAINED IMPRESSIONS”, a demo tape
recorded in single takes with cassette-to-cassette overdubs.
Largely raw and primitive, “STAINED IMPRESSIONS” provides an interesting look into the genesis of oneof the most influential alternative electronic bands of the 80’s, and the variety and experimentation that marked this era.

In 1980 Paul Nova started his Minimal/Synth-career with Bizarre Unit which produced just one legendary and sought-after 7"inch 'Dancing/Away from the Screaming Car' in 1981.
Shortly after in 1982, he founded his own label Exhibit One Records which released four Paul Nova-Vinyls in three years (two 7", one 12" and one Lp).
All these Vinyl-records are highly collectable and almost impossible to find for any price below three-digit-sums.
Now all these wonderful and fascinating tracks are included on this Double-Lp version of 'Trees Without Leaves' which contains more than 30 minutes of recently discovered and previously unreleased tracks, including some demos. UV PØP were an early 80’s post-punk group from the South Yorkshire region of England. Their sound was regionally bleak and they used staccato, angular guitars lines, with vocals ranged from spoken repeated mantras to whispered and shouted political poetics. An excerpt from the album’s liner notes penned by JP Shea helps explain the political climate during which this album was recorded: “In the 1980s there was nothing to smile about; nothing to smile for. The person whom some called wrongly the iron lady brought vengeful spiteful selfishness and a narrow-minded out- look into all our lives. Instead of love and respect there was: a three-day week, Miners strike, and The Falklands War. The sound of UV PØP has always been a sophisticated blend of sadness; with morose North Country sense and a humorous confrontational sensibility. So, you might ask why ‘No Songs Tomorrow’? There is the answer. UV PØP and John White were as certain as anybody there was a strong possibility there might not be anything left with which to make a tomorrow….The fight back, the resistance came in the miners’ strike, on the streets of north Ireland and in the sovereignty of popular culture. And, there was plenty of that in Yorkshire and particularly in the southernmost parts of that region. Working class poets had not all died with the Victorians. The Rough Trade charts for one week in 1982 tell a very interesting story. Alongside acts of the caliber of Sisters of Mercy, Robert Wyatt, Sex Gang Children and Virgin Prunes are UV PØP, their place well-earned.”

Mick Milk - Half Lives LP + 7'' (Anna Logue Records)
MICK
MILK was the early 80's musical outlet of DIY-synth master and
guitarist Mick M., back then hailing from New York City, USA. Basically
equipped with a Korg MS-20 & MS-10, Casiotone 202, Boss DR-55,
Roland TR-606 and other recording gear and effect units, Mick recorded
a few dozen of incredibly amazing tracks which cannot be described
other than superbly creative in terms of using analogue synthesisers
for sound design and song arrangement in electronic pop music while
adding brilliant and unique vocal moments to the whole. Even though his
music was almost abnormally rich in ideas and both technical and
playing skills, proper comparisons are other representatives of the
weirder kind of electronic pop music and ahead-of-their-times projects
such like Richard Bone, Our Daughter's Wedding, John Bender or Der Plan
and Devo. In 1982, Mick recorded his one and only vinyl release, "Half
Life" for Cyclops Records (CY-903), a 12" single which also featured
famous names Man Parrish and Raul A. Rodriguez as producers. For the
album "Half Lives", Anna Logue Records has carefully selected and
compiled the 14 most obscure, electronic and label-fitting tracks from
his demo tape "Songs for Citizens (1982)" and a batch of previously
unreleased tracks from 1982-83. Mastered by Mick himself (with a final
touch by A.P) and another brilliant artwork by Steve Lippert, this
release marks another true highlight in the Anna Logue Records
catalogue.
Doxa Sinistra - Conveyer-Belt LP (Enfant-Terrible)
Doxa
Sinistra was besides The Actor and Ende Shneafliet one of the more
prominent acts on the Trumpett label in the 1980's. Conveyer Belt is
simply one of the best pieces of experimental and industrial music
released in that era. Even today this music stands on its own and has
lost nothing of it genius, originality and impact.
Doxa Sinistra - Via Del Latte LP (Enfant-Terrible)
“Via
Del Latte” from 1982 was the first tape from Doxa Sinistra
and
now is on vinyl for the first time. Dissonant electronic sounds and
weird tunes make up for a sort of sci-fi / horror B-movie
soundtrack. This is not your every day easy listening, but a trip
through a surreal Milky Way.

a long process of searching, restoring and a careful remastering,
Domestica is pleased to present a very carefully selected collection of
hard-to-find tracks from the vanguard Spanish techno scene from the
80s. All the material featured on the Non Plus Ultra 1980-1987, except
for the group from Zaragoza Vam Cyborg, has never been officially
released before: most of these tracks should be regarded as demos
although some bands had the chance to record them on cassette or
reel-to-reel and even in a few cases could have had a limited
distribution.

You Sioux” have been remastered from the original C-60 metal

lyrics and liner notes by Anne Clark. 27 years later these demos
provide a glimpse of the bleak post-industrial European wasteland as
seen from the bedroom window during the French coldwave scene.

Entries is proud to shed light on underground Belgian New Wave pioneers
SIC, with the career-spanning release “Thought Noises", which
compiles all three SIC 7″ singles released from 1979-1981
plus 6
unreleased demos from a 1981 recording session. All songs have been
remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.
Each LP includes a lyric sheet insert. More than 30 years later, SIC
are a document of a mutant strain of new wave ripe for discovery.
Light Asylum – In Tension 12'' EP (Mexican Summer)

once brutal and romantic, Light Asylum exists in that space where
industrial gives way to goth, where the city meets the outer regions
under the cover of night. Four songs here that showcase Shannon
Funchess and Bruno Coviello’s fluid synth pop attack that
shifts
elegantly from midtempo industrial dance to subliminal futureballads
that are deceptively uplifting when considering LI’s
relentless
dark sheen. Calling Funchess a commanding lead singer is an
understatement; there is a heaviness and attack in her vocal delivery
that is downright sinister. This is contemporary synth pop to a tee
that comes to life during their revered live performances.

Tranquil Eyes recorded a great amount of songs and made a fine selection on Walks. Their first and only release. The wonderful produced tracks sound a lot like A Blaze Colour and Snowy Red. Minimal synth at its best with a great feel for song structures, melody and occasionally aiming at the dancefloor. If you’re at all attuned to the cassette culture of the early years don't miss out on this one.

Twilight Ritual - The Factory Scream LP (Onderstroom)
Twilight
Ritual was/is the main project by Geert Coppens and Peter Bonne. During
the early eighties they were involved in many other bands including
Autumn and The Linear Movement (both recently re-released on Minimal
Wave), but Twilight Ritual is by far the most inspired project. The
spirit of the band lingers on beneath the work of Autumn through A
Split Second. The work of Twilight Ritual is diverse, yet consise.
Their pioneering album Rituals inspired other musicians and became an
underground cult classic in the minimal synth genre.
The Factory Scream is a compilation of varied works recorded during 1984 and 1986. After finishing the tracks for the album Rituals they went on discovering new areas of expression. And it shows Visions Of Steel and L'Uomo Moderno are two international sounding and wonderful analogue induced tracks, Wired To The Machines could have been a potential club hit, Black Track can stand next to the best Neon Judgement material and She Told Me Lies is a truly mesmerizing 80s synthpop song.

Captured
Tracks releases the debut LP of Blouse, the Portland band comprised of
Charlie Hilton, Patrick Adams and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s
Jacob Portrait. They practice in this warehouse apparently, a fitting
setting that’s at once old and new; cold concrete if you look
one
way and dotted in valentine-colored balloons when you turn your head.
Blouse express new wave nostalgia as well as anyone, and
Portrait’s echoey handing of Hilton’s vocals is
always
subtle and impressive. Woozy is the default adjective and soft pink the
main color for describing these songs, and fighting your
heart’s
history seems the goal. Wouldn’t it be nice to see you again/
You’re not in my hands but I see you often in my head, Hilton
sings.
Widowspeak – Widowspeak LP (Captured Tracks)
Debut album from Captured Tracks' psyche-pop outfit. Includes the haunting 'Harsh Realm' from their debut single, and the atmospheric swoon of 'Gun Shy' ripe for fans of Mazzy Star or Cat Power.** "The album, recorded at Rear House with Jarvis Taveniere of Woods, documents Widowspeak's inaugural year. In a relaxed studio setting songs born from those first jittery practices could breathe. The trio expanded their modest instrumentation while retaining a sparse aesthetic. The resulting record offers an eerie ambience, at times channeling 1950's jukebox pop, at others, 1960's psychedelia. While garnering comparisons to slow-moving 1990's acts such as Mazzy Star or Cat Power, Widowspeak have defined a sound that's earnestly nostalgic, and increasingly confident. Even so, these are songs about heartache. They are songs about homesickness, about longing for pine forests, reckless youth, and dark night in strange cities.
Should – A Folding Sieve LP reissue (Captured Tracks)
Fittingly for a reissue in Captured Tracks’ Shoegazing Archives series, the history of A Folding Sieve is slightly hazy. The Austin trio’s album first appeared in 1995 as a six song EP credited to shiFt, on their hometown’s tiny ND records. Following a subsequent 7” single (a delicate run through The Jean-Paul Sartre Experience’s lonesome Own Two Feet, included here), shiFt renamed themselves Should, releasing an expanded – and now out of print – version of the album on their own Words On Music label in 2002. This new reissue loses a couple of songs from that edition (including an 18th Dye cover), but adds half a dozen more.

Janitor Of Lunacy were an Italian New Wave electronic band, active in Brescia from 1981 to 1986, composed by Kovre, Claudio Asserini and Gabriele Farina. With this line up, JOL produced a demo tape in 1983 entitled 'Crimes On The Dancefloor", which was very well reviewed by the italian music press. Thanks to such great feedbacks, the band was choosed for various compilation of the era, including VM, Komakino and Magnetique, playing many live shows in historic clubs like Xenon in Florence or Odissea 2001 in Milano, sharing the stage with Weimar Gesang and some others Supporti Fonografici related bands.In 1986 JOL entered in studio for recording their first full-lenght for this label, album publicized by various magazine but that never saw the light of the day, due to artistic divergences. The band broke up shortly after.

Central Unit – Loving Machinery 12’’ EP (Mannequin MNQ 024)

Mannequin is really
happy to present the 30th Anniversary Edition of the
12’’ EP ‘Loving Machinery” from
Central Unit, the cult New Wave mitteleuropean band based in Bologna
(nowdays reformed with a different lineup). Formed in 1981, they were
among the first in Italy to manipulate synths, drum machines and other
electronic devices (as far as we know they were one of the few bands in
the world able to program a Korg-KR55 drum machine) to create
atmospheric soundscapes and they were considered the Italian answer to
Tuxedomoon, who spawned a whole school in the Italian underground.
After the first live appareances as opening act to bands like Spandau Ballet and Monochrome Set in their Italian tours, Central Unit published in March 1982, the 12’’ EP “Loving Machinery” with 4 tracks, including a cover of “What Use?” from Tuxedomoon.
The EP first entered Belgian and German charts with the single "Saturday Nite", thanks to its skeletal electronic beats and minimal synth atmospheres, combined with mechanical basslines and relentless bass guitar meanderings, with slothy saxophone murmurs peeping out here and there.
Central Unit joined some important live shows in Italian and foreign festival (remarkable their show in 1983 at No Wave, No Jazz festival in Berlin where they played with Fad Gadget, Einsturzende Neubauten and Notorische Reflexe), and they released an album for major label CGD, produced by Tuxedomoon bassist Peter Principle in 1983.
Cover art by the renowned cartoon artist Giorgio Carpinteri (Frigidaire, Linus). Carpinteri was part of the so- called Valvoline group, a group of experimental comics artists, that followed in the footsteps of José Muñoz, Joost Swarte and Art Spiegelman.

In Stock!Schedelvreter - Hunker 10'' (Minimal Wave)
Minimal
Wave is
proud to announce our 34th release, a limited edition hand-silkscreened
10” release of Schedelvreter (which loosely translates as
“Skull Gobbler”), the Dutch side project of
brilliant
minimal synth pioneer Danny Bosten, best known for his project Das
Ding. The seven tracks were originally recorded in Danny’s
home
studio and self-released on a cassette entitled Hunker via his Tear
Apart Tapes label in 1985. The newly remastered 10” release
will
be out in late January, and will be limited to 999 hand-silkscreened
numbered copies pressed on black medium weight vinyl.
Unlike
Das Ding, Schedelvreter is not pattern-based or sequenced, the synth
sounds are hand played over a collage of found sounds. At the time,
Danny was experimenting with a Crumar synth that was falling apart, and
would sporadically create sounds that were like human voices. He
created massive drum sounds by layering noise, using leftover
four-track additions in reverse and some live drum recordings courtesy
of his brother’s tapes. The end result feels narrative and
filmic, like the sound track to an imaginary apocalyptic movie: bleak
and desolate.
In
recent years
there has been quite a renewed interest in the works of
Belgium’s
Alain Neffe and his Insane Music label, resulting in a 5LP for Vinyl On
Demand, various 7”s for EE Tapes, a CD for Plinkity Plonk by
Human Flesh. In all this curious revival one name from his past is
absent and that is Cortex. This omission is now corrected by the
release of this double CD, which tells us the whole story of Cortex.
This is perhaps Alain Neffe’s most personal project in which
he
plays music on synthesizers, rhythm boxes, sound effects and writes the
lyrics, which can best seen as poetry. This poetry is recited by
various women: Tina Scatozza, Nadina Bal (of Bene Gesserit), Isabelle
Yernaux and Mirella Brunello. Intimate music with a personal character.
Most of these pieces are in French.
The pieces were released on a cassette for Insane Music Contact and a whole bunch of labels around the globe, such as The Cassette factory, Aerosol, 3rio Tapes, Grafika, Fraction Studio, Discograph, Stack Orientation, Beast 666, Trax, Music For Midget, Colin Potter, Finger In The Dike, Tear Apart Tapes, Korm Plastics, Innersleeve and Gut Level Music. Plus there are nine previously unreleased pieces, all remastered by Alain Neffe.

Taking
its inspiration from the minimal synth and coldwave genres of the
1980s, Soma Sema exists as the musical collaboration of Clara Hall
(voice, also in Daybed) and Th. Tot (machines). With interest and
experience in working with other forms of music, including pop, drone
and noise, Soma Sema seeks to simultaneously transcend and pay homage
to the wave genre. The project's music experiments with ambient
interludes while nevertheless embracing pop structures. In the process,
it creates music that sounds polished yet also rough around the edges
at the same time.
Nina Belief - System Of Belief 10'' (Not Emb Blanc)
NINA BELIEF is Tushna from Miami, USA, and already known from being the female half of RONIN, but here recording solo. She has already appeared with “Android Emotions” on the “We’re Punch addicted” compilation CD (Punch Records) and is now delighting the world with five more fantastic songs from the realms of the analog synth underground. Like the other usual suspects (the analog synth freaks from the US: Martial Canterel, Sleep Museum, Staccato Du Mal, etc.) she appears to only play original early 80’s analog synthesizers and drum machines (Roland CR-78, TR-808, Boss DR-110), which gives this music much heart and soul, and authenticity – for Anna it makes the difference! The music is cold and dark, due to the vocals some similarities to The Vyllies (“Exile Queen”), November Növelet, and also Anne Clark (“Ice in Air”). This is the first release on newly founded German label No Emb Blanc Records, actually a side label of Genetic Music.

Born
in Roma, MMXI. From Here To Eternity. DER NOIR is the Italian wave trio
composed by Manuele Frau (vocals), Manuel Mazzenga (electric &
bass
guitar) and Luciano Lamanna (drum machines, synthesizers). The group
formed in Roma in summer 2011 by the will of both elements to create
something new far from their usual musical out-fits, in fact all the
members come from different musical fields. Faith wanted to give a
possibility to theese guys to try other ways of expression insomuch as
they began recording their debut album over a one-month period in the
Audio Division's studio where Lamanna works as sound engineer and
producer with the help of Andrea Merlini from Minimal Rome in mastering
process. The sound result blends cold wave, dark pop, shoegaze and
depressive with a focus on vocal and guitar textures. Also the choice
to use vintage machines and equipment to give the sound a particular
old & cold shape is not by chance: during the recording
sessions
were used 80's synths like Polysix, Pro One, Moog Voyager and Juno 6,
the Roland 909 drum machine, valve outboard signal processors and all
that have nothing to do with digital stuff. The first album, "A Dead
Summer", includes features by Marco Benevento (The Foreshadowing),
Alessandro Adriani (Newclear Waves), Valentina Mushy and Andrea Merlini
(Andreas Herz, Kobol Electronics).

Doxa Sinistra – Newflashes 2xLP (Trumpett)
November
2011 sees the re-issue on wax of the third and final Doxa Sinistra
album: Newsflashes, originally released on cassette in 1988. This fully
remastered version comes as a double-12", in an edition of 350, on
Trumpett itself.
Having operated as a duo on the previous albums, for Newsflashes Doxa Sinistra expanded to a four piece band, with the participation of the guitarists of Det Wiehl (Lebel Period/Staalplaat). As a result the sound was no longer merely industrial, and the compositions covered a much wider range than they had on Via Del Latte and Conveyer Belt. In a review, 23 years ago, Newsflashes was described as:
"Manicured noise with superior musicianship & ideal textures equal the leading edge of intelligent sound. Synthesizers and excellent guitar riffs team up with full-speed rhythm boxes and vocoder vocals! This is progressive industrial music with a unique bite."
Ende Shneafliet – Synthimental Love Songs LP (Trumpett)
In November 2011, to celebrate Trumpett's 30th birthday, these gems are released on LP as yet, titled Synthimental Love Songs (TRUM 0748), after a track from the band's 1983 VPRO Spleen concert. The record comes on crystal clear vinyl in an edition of 320.
Twistin' On The Tombstones, Air Zaïre and Voices Of The Dead, were released on vinyl before, on the long out of print Trumpett Sounds and Trumpett Days compilation LP's on Enfant Terrible. Symphoy Romant (J. Tesla Schnitt) is a previously unpublished edit of the full lenght studio recording that featured on the rare and mythical Reminiscent boxset.
The remaining 7 tracks are all unreleased on vinyl before. They include the shamelessly catchy synth tune My Mother Sells Tupperware, the nihilist ditty Poison, the up-tempo minimal dub cut Panzerfaust 60m, the sinister Ant People, and Lauda Und Reutemann: unintentionally sounding like the instrumental part of Dance Sister Dance, from Santana's 1976 Amigos album, but easily beating the original. Minimal Electronics? Minimal Wave? What?

Ende Shneafliet – Synthimental Love Songs LP (Trumpett)
In November 2011, to celebrate Trumpett's 30th birthday, these gems are released on LP as yet, titled Synthimental Love Songs (TRUM 0748), after a track from the band's 1983 VPRO Spleen concert. The record comes on crystal clear vinyl in an edition of 320.
Twistin' On The Tombstones, Air Zaïre and Voices Of The Dead, were released on vinyl before, on the long out of print Trumpett Sounds and Trumpett Days compilation LP's on Enfant Terrible. Symphoy Romant (J. Tesla Schnitt) is a previously unpublished edit of the full lenght studio recording that featured on the rare and mythical Reminiscent boxset.
The remaining 7 tracks are all unreleased on vinyl before. They include the shamelessly catchy synth tune My Mother Sells Tupperware, the nihilist ditty Poison, the up-tempo minimal dub cut Panzerfaust 60m, the sinister Ant People, and Lauda Und Reutemann: unintentionally sounding like the instrumental part of Dance Sister Dance, from Santana's 1976 Amigos album, but easily beating the original. Minimal Electronics? Minimal Wave? What?

Goitia Deitz – Romance/Coma 7'' (Disc Error Recordings)
Debut 7" release from Goitia Deitz a mysterious duo from Brooklyn, New York. Behind the pairs shrouded persona are two DJs and producers that have been collaborating as Goitia Deitz for the past year. Their recorded experiments in minimal electronics hint towards an extensive record collection and a shared bonding over their love of Krautrock, Kosmische and Italo.
All tracks are produced on analog equipment, recorded live in one take with additional mixing by James Aparicio (These New Puritans, Liars, Spiritualized, Mute Records). Nothing is pre-planned or written.

Mannequin is sincerly proud to announce the second volume of the much acclaimed italian New Wave Italian compilation. "Danza Meccanica" is the latest, unmissable chapter in the story of Italian post punk - the less traditionally rock branch. It outlines the approach taken by ten more or less unknown groups who all deserve rediscovery and to be remembered alongside luckier outfits. Ten tracks that spell out the manifesto of a scene fascinated by electronic innovation, a scene that used the sounds coming out of English labels like Factory, 4AD and Mute as a reference point. The grey atmospheres and raincoats of a still-divided Berlin, and those of Manchester, which along with Sheffield produced sounds destined to inspire future generations of musicians and producers.

Doris
Norton (pioneer in the early electronic/computer music) began her
musical carrer playing avant-garde and progressive music using
synthesizers such as Roland System 700, Roland system 100M and Minimoog
(Jacula, Antonius Rex). In december 1980 she recorded, at the Fontana
Studio 7 (Milan), her first solo album entitled "Under Ground" (Musik
Research). Sponsored by Apple computer and the Roland Corporation music
instshe was more involved in experimental electro computerized music
and recorded the albums "Parapsycho" (1981), "Raptus" (1981, Durium),
"Nortoncomputerforpeace" (1983), "Personal Computer" (1984),
"Artificial Intellingence" (1985). In 1986 she became an official
consultant for IBM Computer Music and recorded tworuments, she was more
involved in experimental electro computerized music and recorded, after
“Parapsycho” (1981), in the same year
“Raptus”
with the help of Antonius Rex, Lorenz Schulze and Tullio De Piscopo.

Agent Side Grinder – Industrial Beauty 2CD (Manic Depression)
Since
their very first release, an untitled 7" single in 2007 on the Dutch
'Enfant Terrible' label, the Swedish band Agent Side Grinder has
encountered quite some positive feedback. Their sound? Industrial music
in the style of Cabaret Voltaire, mixed with some proto-punk in the
Suicide-style, fused with the energy of early EBM reminiscent of The
Klinik and topped with psychedelic touches that can be traced back to
The Doors. The sound is definitely targeted at fans of industrial,
electro, old style EBM and Krautrock alike. Note that the band performs
with only analogue equipment on stage.
Out now is the 2CD "Industrial Beauty". On this digipak double-CD you'll get a CD holding a selection of the band's best studio tracks, picked from the two official album releases, and a live CD, previously released as the cassette "Industrial Beauty". The live CD contains quite a lot of exclusive material which appears for the first time on CD.

cold and alienating sculptures or brutalist structures, devoid of

a dressing-down for Total Decay, but the opposite is true. Vasquez has
produced a quarter of an hour of intense music that despite seemingly
wanting to be isolated bears repeated listens.

This 7-inch is part of the Sacred Bones reissue series. UV PØP were from North Country UK, Sheffield to be exact. They crafted morose, jagged punk songs about the political climate of their country at the time. This single was originally released in 1982 on the legendary PAX Records in an edition of 1000 individually designed silk-screened covers. It was produced by Cabaret Voltaire and charted on Rough Trade but in America the band remained largely obscure.

Following Audio Noir, his universally acclaimed Mush Records debut, OCTAVIUS entered a 3-year performance hiatus to explore new models of recording and releasing work.
During this time he became involved in the music technology arena with Avid Technology and the development of Pro Tools. In 2009, Marshall became Creative Director of CNTRL Limited, a boutique record company that specializes in releasing the work of Black American avant-garde musicians.

Mannequin is seriously proud to release on 45 rotations-per-minute seven inch single a nearly forgotten collaboration dredged and now seeing the light of day.
Played entirely live in one ago and using only vintage analogue synthesizers and sequencers, Martial Canterel and Tobias Bernstrup four-hands / two voices put our minds in another dimension, in an hypotetical night-time “outside”, where shadows and confusion are leading the way, creating simply a milestone for all the minimal electronics music lovers.
Martial Canterel is definitely one of the most talented artist in electronic underground music of our time, beeing the pioneer and instigator of what has now become a new movement of minimal electronic bands in the United States. With several albums on his back and deeply related to Wierd Records, Sean McBride is also the vintage controlled mind of Xeno & Oaklander.

Tobias Bernstrup is a swedish contemporary artist working with videos, interactive works, live performances and electronic music, mixing electro pop, italo disco and some darker synth moments. We are talking about the serbian duo Sixth June – Laslo Antal and Lidija Andonov – who are rising from the mostly unknown music scene in Belgrade but nowdays re-based in the analog paradise called Berlin.
Sixth June started their musical adventure back in 2007 and in their tracks you can let your heart listen their deep influence for everything that has a synthesizer sound and found its origin in the Eighties; the duo represents perfectly the two sides of the same coin, in fact while Laslo is producing obscure but expressive, powerful and danceable textures, on the back side the voice of Lidija is living the shape to a wobbling atmosphere you won’t escape from.
Their debut album “Everything” released on Genetic Music’s side label No EBM Blanc had got an enormous positive feedback from the Minimal Electronics-fans worldwidethey were playing live at BIM Belgian Fest 2010 in December 2010 togheter with Absolute Body Control, Portion Control, Twice A Man and many other amazing bands.

Around the World ‘79-‘85. The Hidden Tapes features
rare,
unreleased, and licensed tracks from as far as Japan and the former
Yugoslavia. Most of the bands on this compilation recorded on 4-track
tape in their bedroom studios while two of them went further to
collaborate by sending tapes through the mail. The sounds on this
record range from raw proto-industrial to naive danceable Belgradian
new wave, to filmic synthesizer music to more complex, vocal-driven
melodic synthpop. The Hidden Tapes presents songs from
Danton’s
Voice, Oskarova Fobija, The Fast Set, Sympathy Nervous, Pas De Deux,
Unovidual + Tara Cross, SS-Say, Robert Lawrence + Mark Phillips, Kym
Amps and Reservé, all lovingly remastered. Thanks to
everyone
involved in making this happen. Limited edition of 999 numbered copies,
pressed on 180 gram vinyl, and housed in heavy printed jacket

Led Er Est - May 12'' EP (Captured Tracks)
Following up their excellent Wierd Records debut LP "Dust on Common" and the Mannequin split-12", Led Er Est return with a new 12" EP, the aptly named "May," their second release on C/T. The trio describe the record as a ".. collection of theme-based songs, almost like a dark sci fi film soundtrack..." The songs were written at various points some were written on the long drives over their last European tour.
Side A opens with the dancefloor friendly "Lonsome XOXO", "a song about a girl obsessed with death" while "Plants" contains a cosmic disco bassline and use of 12-string guitar, showing their influences fall outside the narrow margins of electronic music. This is further evidenced by "Madi la Lune" a nod to British underground songwriter Bill Fay. Side B gets darker and heavier with the apocalyptic sci fi synth punk opener "Opto 5." This mood continues into "May" and ends with the instrumental brain melter "Drosophilia Melanogaster."

Bay Area Retrograde (BART) Volume 1 is Dark Entries’ first compilation of underground music from San Francisco (and the greater Bay Area) in the 1980s. Towards the end of the 70s, San Francisco experimental music clashed with the aftermath of punk and gave birth to a vibrant underground scene. By the early to mid 80s the DIY music scene of the Bay Area was a hotbed for experimental and quirky new wave, post punk, and synthpop, quite similar to New York’s No Wave scene and Berlin’s Neue Deutsche Welle. We are really excited to introduce you the cold factory sounds of the Houston duo
//TENSE//, with a 12'' 5-tracks, surely one of our top-notch releases for 2011.
After an acclaimed tour opening for Nitzer Ebb in North America and a prolific production
for Desire Records, //TENSE// is back in their creepy studio and the result is a
constellation of brooding synth bass lines, pounding electronic drum pad sounds, movie
samples and distorted vocals that sound pitch perfect underneath all of the madness.
To have an accurate idea of what we are talking about, imagine that Snake Plissken never
escaped New York and he started an electro body music band with The Duke. Then, you
are almost close to.
//TENSE// are definitely bringing back to life the earlier days of EBM, in a funky-industrial
mixture that is so close to the shiny mid 80s period of Cabaret Voltaire or earlier Ministry,
think early Wax Trax-era US industrial (Ministry, Skinny Puppy) crossed with the more
minimal european wave sound (Absolute Body Control, A Split - Second).
An European 2011 Tour is soon to come (late August-September) in collaboration with
Desire Records.

Spittle new releases stocked, oh wow.Neon - Crimes Of Passion Redux CD Digipak (Spittle)
The project Crimes Of Passion was built around three mini-albums, released on the second half of the Eighties. Finally this body of work has been repackaged in a single CD with bonus tracks – alternate dance versions of classics such as “I Am On My Way” and “Fire” – showing how much the band was crossing paths with both rock’n’roll tradition and EBM. Includes an amazing cover version of Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”.

More than welcomed release for Le Masque, a very influential band in Northern Italy’s underground scene. Definitely ahead of their time, A.t.r.o.x. were one of the first bands to move beyond the new wave styles and introduce strong electronic elements. Not too far from works of contemporary groups such as Tuxedo Moon and Minimal Compact, Falls Of Time is their testament, a double CD with their two albums The Night’s Remains (1982) and Water Tales (Contempo 1983) plus the previously unreleased 12" Falls Of Time.
Wax Heroes – Dal Principio All’Inizio CD Digipak (Spittle)
One of the most sought after band of the Italian wave. From Treviso, Wax Heroes released a cult 7” for Electric Eye back in ’83 (“Sher”) and were also included in the genre-defining compilation Gathered. Alongside these tracks, all of their re-mastered demos finally came to see the light.
